The new year began with a major move for Milton’s Victoria Bach, marking the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s (PWHL) first trade of the season. On Monday, December 30, Bach and Toronto Sceptres defender Jocelyne Larocque were dealt to the Ottawa Charge in exchange for forward Hayley Scamurra and defender Savannah Harmon.
Bach, 28, wasted no time making her mark with her new team. The Boston University alumna and 2022 Olympic alternate played nearly 15 minutes in Ottawa’s narrow 2-1 victory over Toronto the following day, despite being outshot 38-13. A late goal secured the Charge’s win.
Selected in the seventh round of the inaugural PWHL draft, Bach has one goal in seven games this season, following a five-point rookie campaign that was disrupted by injury. Off the ice, she achieved another milestone by earning her teaching degree. Ottawa now ranks third in the standings with a 3-0-1-3 record.
The trade, however, dashed the hopes of local fans eager to see Bach team up with fellow Milton native Megan Carter. A standout defender from Northeastern, the 23-year-old Carter was the Sceptres’ second-round pick in the spring draft. Unfortunately, Carter has yet to debut this season due to an undisclosed lower-body injury sustained during training camp.
