While the police data doesn’t specify the types of assaults or the injuries sustained by victims, it does show that 238 cases have been solved, 64 are still under investigation, and 45 remain unsolved.
A high-profile case this month involved an 18-year-old who allegedly assaulted two men during separate carjackings. Given that there are still six days left in January, the number of reported assaults could increase beyond the current 347.
Peel police continue to share safety tips to help residents avoid becoming victims of assault, such as avoiding opening doors to strangers, planning safe routes, locking car doors promptly, and being cautious when walking or driving alone. If you feel you’re being followed, the advice is to head toward a public space like a police station or 24-hour store rather than going home.
