Assault Reports in Mississauga and Brampton Surpass 1,800 Since January, Police Say
Since the beginning of the year, more than 1,800 assault incidents have been reported in Mississauga and Brampton, according to Peel Regional Police.
Between January 1 and April 26, police data reveals a total of 1,839 reported assaults across both cities—900 in Mississauga and 936 in Brampton. Additionally, Peel police responded to one assault in Caledon and two in Toronto that fell under their jurisdiction.
This translates to more than 16 assaults occurring each day on average.
The data also identifies 26 key locations that recorded 10 or more assault-related crimes. Among the most affected areas are:

Hurontario Street – 28 incidents
Dixie Road – 26 incidents
Queen Street – 23 incidents
Lakeshore Road – 21 incidents
Main Street – 20 incidents
Goreway Drive – 19 incidents
Bovaird Drive – 19 incidents
Steeles Avenue – 19 incidents
Kennedy Road – 17 incidents
Rathburn Road – 17 incidents
Sandalwood Parkway – 15 incidents
Derry Road – 15 incidents
Burnhamthorpe Road – 12 incidents
Chinguacousy Road – 12 incidents
Speakman Drive – 12 incidents
Glen Erin Drive – 13 incidents
McLaughlin Road – 13 incidents
Mississauga Valley Boulevard – 13 incidents
Eglinton Avenue – 11 incidents
Knightsbridge Road – 11 incidents
Terminal Three Road – 11 incidents
Erin Centre Boulevard – 10 incidents
City Centre Drive – 10 incidents
Peel Centre Drive – 10 incidents
Airport Road – 25 incidents
Notably, the data does not specify the type of assault or the nature of any injuries sustained.
Out of the 1,839 reported cases, police have resolved 1,260. Investigations are ongoing for 256 cases, while 323 remain unsolved.
In response to the rise in assaults, Peel police have shared personal safety tips to help residents protect themselves:
Avoid opening your door to strangers; communicate through a locked door.
Stick to well-lit paths and avoid shortcuts through isolated areas.
Know the locations of nearby police stations and 24-hour businesses.
Travel with a companion whenever possible.
Lock your car doors as soon as you get inside and leave promptly.
If someone attempts to steal your bag, don’t resist—find safety and contact police immediately. Only defend yourself if you’re physically attacked.
If you suspect you’re being followed, do not go home. Instead, head to the nearest police or service station.
