A collision involving a dump truck has resulted in the closure of the QEW in both directions in Mississauga this morning.
The incident occurred when the truck collided with a bridge overpass spanning the highway between Cawthra Road and Dixie Road shortly before 8 a.m., as reported by the OPP on X.
As a result, the section of the highway between Cawthra and Dixie roads has been shut down.
Details regarding how the truck struck the overpass have not been disclosed by the OPP, who also confirmed that there have been no reported injuries.
Police have implemented diversions for Toronto-bound traffic to exit at Cawthra Road and for Fort Erie-bound traffic to exit at Dixie Road.
Authorities anticipate the closure to last for at least five hours, with assistance provided by Peel Regional Police.
Additionally, both directions of South Service Road are closed, and westbound traffic on North Service Road is halted at Stanfield Road.
In a subsequent update, the OPP revealed that the truck collided with a pedestrian bridge under construction. Consequently, the closure of the QEW in both directions is expected to persist until approximately 2 p.m., with cranes already present at the scene by 10 a.m.
The Ogden Avenue pedestrian bridge, which has encountered previous delays, was initially slated for completion this summer.
