A 32-year-old Mississauga man faces sexual assault and other related charges after a Vaughan youth was lured via online messages into a sexual encounter with an older man who police say pretended to be much younger.
York Regional Police investigators said the victim believed a man with whom they had been communicating for several months through an online messaging platform was 18 years old after he “portrayed himself” to be that age.
“He maintained his age throughout their communication,” police said in a news release on Wednesday, adding an in-person meeting was then arranged in mid-February.
On Feb. 18, according to police, the man ordered a ride-share to pick the victim up at their school and bring them to his home. Once there, the man “engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim,” investigators said.
The following day, the victim reported the incident to police “as they believed the male to be older than what he had portrayed.”
Police subsequently determined the man in question was older than 18.
Tanner Guile, 32, of Mississauga, is charged with:
sexual assault
sexual interference with a person under age 16
telecommunication with person under or believed under age 16 for specific criminal offences
invitation to sexual touching
Investigators believe there could be more victims and are encouraging them to come forward.
