The North Halton Twisters, a local girls’ hockey organization, have been awarded the Kruger Big Assist grand prize of $75,000.
After initially winning $25,000 as a regional winner in the national competition, the Twisters secured the grand prize through a Canada-wide vote. The victory was officially announced on TSN Thursday night.

After initially winning $25,000 as a regional winner in the national competition, the Twisters secured the grand prize through a Canada-wide vote. The victory was officially announced on TSN Thursday night.
“With this funding, we can do so much more,” said Letitia McDougall, vice-president of the Twisters, in a video celebrating the regional win. “We’ll be able to expand our Emerging Leaders program, offer more engaging opportunities, host parent information sessions with translation services, and truly foster a strong sense of community through mentorship.”
Launched in 2024, the Twisters’ Emerging Leaders program includes Leap Forward, which focuses on leadership development, community building, and teamwork, and Empower to Lead, a junior coaching initiative for players aged 16 and older that introduces them to coaching.
The organization is also committed to making hockey more accessible to girls in the community.
“Our goal is to eliminate some of the financial barriers that prevent families from participating,” McDougall added.
