Among this year’s recipients of the Business Awards of Excellence from the Mississauga Board of Trade is an organization dedicated to environmental protection and fostering connections between people and nature.
The Riverwood Conservancy, a volunteer- and member-based charity focused on safeguarding and revitalizing the Riverwood area of Mississauga, was honored as the Not-for-Profit of the Year at the board’s 2024 Business Awards of Excellence ceremony held recently.
Situated along the Credit River valley near the Burnhamthorpe Road bridge, Riverwood encompasses 150 acres of woodlands, meadows, ravines, and gardens, serving as a serene oasis within the city. The Riverwood Conservancy’s mission extends beyond conservation efforts to include engaging people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds with the natural world through various initiatives such as education, gardening, and volunteerism.
Additionally, several other outstanding businesses were recognized during the awards celebration, including Star Quality Enterprises Inc. for Small Business of the Year, Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Ltd. for Large Business of the Year, PLASP Child Care Services for Inclusive Employer of the Year, Metalworks Institute for the Creative City Award, Prep Doctors Inc. for the International Trade Award, Driven By… Co. for the Sam McCallion Community Involvement Award, Trexo Robotics for the Innovation and Technology Business Award, Hydro Extrusion Canada Inc. for the Environmental Sustainability Award, Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale for the Mississauga Tourism and Hospitality Award, and Janet Wardle of MHI Canada Aerospace Inc. for Business Person of the Year.
Established in 1961, the Mississauga Board of Trade represents approximately 1,000 larger businesses and numerous smaller operations across the city, advocating for their interests at various levels of government. Serving as the “voice of business” in Mississauga, the board plays a crucial role in addressing policy issues that affect businesses of all sizes and industries within the community.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Trevor McPherson since 2021, MBOT continues to serve as a vital resource for businesses in Mississauga, contributing to the city’s dynamic economic landscape. Former Mayor Bonnie Crombie noted that Mississauga is now home to over 100,000 businesses, including 60 Fortune 500 Canadian headquarters, highlighting the city’s thriving business environment.
