An overnight fire caused damage to the newly renovated Hazel McCallion Central Library in Mississauga.
Fire crews were dispatched to the library at 301 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson from Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services. The blaze is believed to have started near the library’s front door.
The fire broke the glass and spread into the lobby area. Fortunately, the activation of sprinklers contained the flames, though there is water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
As of 7 a.m., firefighters were still on-site. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
The Hazel McCallion Central Library had just reopened in December following a $49 million renovation.
