Volunteer hours available for high school students
If you’re a high school student in Milton looking for a meaningful and rewarding way to give back to the community—while also earning volunteer hours—you now have a great opportunity to get your hands dirty for a good cause.
The Milton Public Library is inviting local teens to become part of a dedicated volunteer team to help care for the Medicine Learning Garden at its Beaty Branch location (945 Fourth Line). This special garden is not just any green space—it’s a carefully curated plot that celebrates and cultivates Indigenous medicinal plants, offering both cultural education and ecological benefit.
Volunteers are needed every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. throughout the spring and summer months. Tasks will include planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting, giving participants a hands-on experience in sustainable gardening while helping preserve important local plant species.
Beyond its educational and cultural value, the garden also plays a vital environmental role as a pollinator habitat, supporting local beehives and contributing to a healthier ecosystem.
And there’s an added bonus: All hours contributed will count toward the community service requirements for high school students. It’s a chance to connect with nature, learn about Indigenous traditions, support environmental health, and build a stronger community—all in one place.
Interested teens can sign up now to be part of the team and make a meaningful difference this growing season.
