Peel police continue to provide safety tips to help residents protect themselves from becoming victims of assault:
Do not open the door to strangers. Instead, speak through a closed and locked door.
Plan your routes, avoiding shortcuts through vacant or poorly lit areas.
Know the locations of nearby police stations and 24/7 stores.
Avoid being alone; take a friend with you when possible.
Always lock your car after entering, and leave the parking lot promptly.
If someone attempts to steal your purse or bag, do not resist. Go to a safe place and immediately contact the police. Only defend yourself if physically attacked.
If you suspect you’re being followed, don’t go directly home. Instead, head to a police station or a public service station.
