Peel police continue to offer important safety advice to help residents protect themselves from becoming victims of assault:
Avoid opening the door to strangers. Speak through a closed and locked door instead.
Plan your route carefully and avoid shortcuts through empty lots or poorly lit areas.
Familiarize yourself with the nearest police stations and 24/7 stores.
Avoid walking alone, and ask a friend to accompany you when possible.
Always lock your car after entering and avoid lingering in parking lots. Drive off as soon as you can.
If someone attempts to steal your purse or bag, don’t resist. Head to a safe location and immediately contact the police. Defend yourself only if you are physically attacked.
If you believe you are being followed, do not go home, as you don’t want the person to know your address. Instead, head to the nearest police station or an open service station.
