Plans for a new hotel and conference center in downtown Mississauga are expanding. Initially planned to be located on the southeast corner of the Living Arts Centre (LAC) site, the project is now set to occupy three acres of land to the east and north of the LAC, according to Mayor Carolyn Parrish. She explained that the plan has grown in scope, with no specific timeline yet, but with a goal to use the full three-acre area owned by the city. This hotel and conference center is central to Parrish’s vision for revitalizing Mississauga’s City Centre, which she believes lacks vibrancy despite being surrounded by highrises, Square One, and other landmarks.
Parrish has emphasized the need to make the downtown more dynamic, noting that, while there are events during the festivals in spring and summer, the area feels “boring” the rest of the year. In addition to the hotel and conference center, the city plans to expand the LAC by adding 560 new seats to its Main Auditorium to attract larger performances and events. Furthermore, Parrish envisions a 7,500-seat soccer stadium and an urban school for kindergarten through Grade 8 students as part of a broader initiative to bring more energy and appeal to downtown Mississauga.
