Mississauga hospital officials announce that a new partnership focused on advanced artificial intelligence technology will enhance emergency care and provide additional benefits for patients.
Trillium Health Partners (THP) has formed a multi-year strategic alliance with Canadian health AI company Signal 1, enabling the Mississauga healthcare network to further develop its AI capabilities and accelerate the safe integration of AI tools for improved outcomes across the hospital and community.
THP manages Mississauga Hospital, Credit Valley Hospital, and the Queensway Health Centre, located on the Etobicoke-Mississauga border.
“As we confront today’s challenges and strive to create a healthier community, advanced technology and AI will enhance the quality and timeliness of care, address capacity issues, and allow our teams to focus on what they do best—providing exceptional patient care,” said THP President and CEO Karli Farrow in a news release. “With the support of Signal 1, we can leverage the vast potential of AI to improve health while ensuring ethical and human-centered use in clinical settings.”
THP plans to utilize Signal 1’s “industry-leading Health AI Platform,” which is uniquely designed for the healthcare sector, to optimize key hospital functions like discharge planning and emergency care, ultimately enhancing patient care, decision-making, and operational efficiency.
As these new systems are gradually implemented, both patients and healthcare workers will benefit from enhancements including:
– **Early identification of high-risk patients:** Real-time monitoring of patient data to predict risks of adverse events such as deterioration, readmission, or complications.
– **Improved clinical decision support:** Tools that provide insights from patient data analysis to aid healthcare providers in making better-informed decisions and delivering more effective treatments.
– **Reduced readmission rates:** Identifying patients at risk of readmission allows for targeted interventions to decrease unnecessary hospital stays.
– **Faster patient discharge:** Streamlining processes to expedite discharges from the hospital.
– **Real-time monitoring and alerts:** Continuous observation of patient data, with alerts for critical changes in condition.
“AI has the potential to bring significant and sustained benefits to healthcare systems,” stated Signal 1 CEO Tomi Poutanen. “Our platform equips hospitals with the technology and support necessary to safely implement and expand AI tools throughout their organization.”
This new AI partnership comes as Trillium Health Partners prepares to begin construction next spring on a new Mississauga hospital, set to be the largest in Canada when it opens in 2033.
