More than two dozen firefighters responded to an overnight blaze that severely damaged a home in Mississauga.
According to Mississauga Fire Platoon Chief Craig Dockeray, emergency crews arrived at a semi-detached house on The Credit Woodlands, south of Burnhamthorpe Road West, at 1:10 a.m. Thursday. The fire originated in the garage and spread to the second floor.
At least one person was home at the time, but by the time firefighters arrived, no one was inside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A vehicle in the driveway was completely destroyed, and while the attached unit also suffered damage, the most significant impact was on the home where the fire started. It took approximately an hour for crews to bring the blaze under control, with extension into the attic and the adjoining unit.
Dockeray estimated the damages to be at least $500,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Peel Regional Police stated that no criminal activity is suspected.
Firefighters remained on the scene until around 11 a.m. to monitor for any flare-ups.
