Four lanes of the QEW in Mississauga will be closed overnight for the final three weeks of March as part of ongoing bridge rehabilitation work over the Credit River.
Starting March 11 and continuing through March 31, two eastbound and two westbound lanes between Erin Mills Parkway and Hurontario Street will be closed intermittently between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. the following morning, according to the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project team. They added that traffic disruptions are expected during the lane closures, and construction noise may occur during the overnight work. The closures are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.
Additionally, drivers and residents are reminded that lane closures are already in effect on three major roads near the QEW. One lane on Premium Way will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from March 3 through March 31. This closure will affect the stretch between Stavebank Road and Lynchmere Avenue. Flagging will maintain two-way traffic, and access to Dickson Road and Lynchmere Avenue will remain open.
Premium Way runs parallel to the QEW just west of Hurontario Street.
From March 3 to March 14, there will also be one- and two-lane closures on Mississauga Road and South Sheridan Way. On Mississauga Road, one lane will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with two-way traffic maintained. On South Sheridan Way, two lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with two-way traffic also maintained.
Residents should be aware that overnight construction activities may generate noise.
Since 2022, lane closures and other restrictions have been a regular occurrence along the QEW and nearby roads due to the ongoing bridge project, which began three years ago. No specific completion date for the bridge work has been provided.
Further traffic disruptions are expected in the coming weeks and months as work continues along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario Street to Mississauga Road and beyond. Night and weekend work will continue for the duration of the project.

The latest update from officials highlighted significant progress on the bridge rehabilitation. Traffic is now running on the newly constructed Mississauga Road overpass, and work on the eastbound QEW alignment has been completed. Additionally, the south section of the Credit River bridge was demolished last June, and paving and line painting were completed last July.
Looking ahead, the $313.8-million project, led by EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc., will include ongoing activities such as:
Construction of the Mississauga Road multi-use path
Rehabilitation of the existing bridge
Work on the Mississauga Road interchange
Development of pedestrian and cyclist crossings over the QEW
Improvements to the QEW median
EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc. were awarded the contract for the project in late 2020, with work beginning in 2021/22.
The project was first studied by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation in 2013. Initially, the plan called for the demolition of the existing 840-foot-long bridge, which was built in 1934 and expanded in 1960.
However, following public outcry and strong opposition from Mississauga city council in late 2019, the provincial government reversed its decision. It was then decided that the existing bridge, located just east of Mississauga Road, would be rehabilitated instead of demolished.
The province stated that, based on the feedback it received after the initial demolition announcement, it decided to preserve the bridge’s original heritage structure, which is owned by the Ontario government.
