Two major roads next to the QEW in Mississauga will experience partial closures overnight for the next two weeks as work continues on the rehabilitation of the highway bridge over the Credit River.
According to the latest project update, one lane on Mississauga Road, between Kedleston Way and the QEW westbound on-ramp, will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night from March 24 to April 7.
At the same time, two lanes on South Sheridan Way, between Mississauga Road and the QEW eastbound on-ramp, will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Two-way traffic will be maintained in both areas under flagging conditions. Officials also caution that overnight construction may cause noise and traffic delays.
Access to Mississauga Crescent and Kedleston Way will be available at all times despite the lane closure on Mississauga Road, project leaders said.
In addition, drivers are reminded that four lanes on a busy section of the QEW in Mississauga will also be closed nightly through March 31, and potentially beyond, as work continues. Two lanes in each direction, between Erin Mills Parkway and Hurontario Street, will be closed at various times from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The closures are part of the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project, and while disruptions are expected, officials noted that construction activities and noise are also anticipated. The closures may be rescheduled if weather conditions require.
Drivers and residents should also be aware that Premium Way, a road parallel to the QEW, will be closed on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until March 31. This closure, between Stavebank Road and Lynchmere Avenue, will result in traffic disruptions in the area. However, two-way traffic will be maintained with flagging, and access to Dickson Road and Lynchmere Avenue will remain open.
Lane closures and restrictions have been common since 2022 due to the ongoing bridge project, which began three years ago. No specific completion date has been provided for the bridge work, and more disruptions are expected as the project continues.
The $313.8-million project, being carried out by EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc., includes the rehabilitation of the existing bridge, improvements to the Mississauga Road interchange, construction of pedestrian-cyclist crossings over the QEW, and median improvements.
The project was first studied by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation in 2013, and while initial plans called for demolishing the 840-foot bridge, public outcry and opposition from Mississauga City Council led to a decision in 2019 to rehabilitate the existing structure instead. The bridge, built in 1934 and expanded in 1960, is owned by the Ontario government.
