– 1 residential garage or shed
– 3 stores
– 1 jewelry store
– 1 restaurant
– 2 pharmacies
– 1 factory
– 3 categorized as “other”
– 9 classified as “unidentified” businesses
The primary hotspots for these incidents were:
– Kennedy Road
– Queen Street
Although few cases have been reported so far this year, there were several noteworthy break-and-enter incidents in 2024.
Peel Police indicate that certain properties are more likely to be targeted for break-ins, such as corner lots, homes bordering parks or open spaces, and properties that appear unmaintained or vacant.
“Residential break-ins are typically crimes of opportunity,” say Peel Police. “Burglars often target properties based on characteristics that increase their chances of breaking in without being caught.”
To prevent break-ins, residents are advised to follow these tips:
– Maintain shrubs and hedges to ensure clear lines of sight to windows and doors.
– Lock garage and screen doors, even when at home.
– Get to know your neighbors and watch out for each other’s properties.
– Consider adding an extra lock to windows and sliding doors.
