Construction has officially begun on a new rental apartment building in Mississauga.
The project features a purpose-built rental community consisting of three residential towers located at 725 Village Green Blvd., near Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue.
On Thursday, officials gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony hosted by the developer, Morguard Corporation.
“It’s always exciting to celebrate a new purpose-built rental building,” said Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish on social media. “Morguard, a long-time partner of the City, is developing 431 beautiful units at 725 Village Green Blvd. I’m pleased to join Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko, Rai and Angela Sahi, and other key stakeholders to kick off this fantastic project!”
The site, situated just south of the Mississauga Seniors Centre, has remained vacant for several years.
In 2017, an application was made for 171 stacked townhouses on the property, according to a City of Mississauga report. Following discussions with the mayor, the local councillor, and city staff, Morguard revised the plan.
According to a 2022 report, the three apartment buildings will range from seven to nine stories in height.
