It’s now official.
The recount of votes in the Ontario riding of Mississauga-Erin Mills confirms that Progressive Conservative Sheref Sabawy has been re-elected as MPP.
Elections Ontario has verified the results of the recount, which was prompted by the narrow margin of victory Sabawy secured in last month’s provincial election.
In the final count, Sabawy gained three additional votes, bringing his total to 16,694, compared to Liberal Qasir Dar’s 16,671 votes.
This result also means Premier Doug Ford’s party has successfully swept all six ridings in Mississauga for the third consecutive election.
Sabawy has represented the riding as MPP since 2018.
He previously served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport from 2019 to 2023, and the Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery from 2023 to 2024.
He is also a member of the Ontario Legislature’s Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure, and Cultural Policy.
