Delta Air Lines has offered a financial payment to the 76 passengers onboard Endeavor Air flight 4819, which crash-landed at Pearson Airport. Each passenger is eligible to receive $30,000 as a gesture “with no strings attached” for enduring the traumatic experience.
The crash, which occurred on Monday afternoon (Feb. 17), resulted in the safe evacuation of all 76 passengers and four crew members. Twenty-one passengers were taken to the hospital, with two still receiving treatment. The flight, originating from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, caught fire upon impact, rolled, and came to a stop upside down on the tarmac. Both wings were torn off, and the plane suffered extensive damage from the impact, fire, and smoke.
In a message to the victims, the airline confirmed that the financial offer could be accepted without affecting their right to pursue legal action.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian praised the flight crew for their quick and heroic actions during the rescue efforts, supporting the pilots’ response.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined, and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada, along with U.S. aviation authorities, has launched an investigation. The TSB hopes to gather answers from the flight data and cockpit voice recorders recovered from the plane. Crews began removing the wreckage from the runway today.
