Hale Coffee has announced the closure of its only Mississauga location in Square One’s food district later this month, bringing an end to over five years of serving drinks and snacks in the mall’s upscale dining area.
Robert Freitas, general manager of Hale Coffee, explained to the Mississauga News that they will permanently close the Square One shop on Sunday, July 28 due to the landlord’s decision not to renew their lease. However, they are actively searching for another location within the city.
“Our Square One location’s closure is regrettable due to the landlord’s lease decision,” he stated, acknowledging the dedication and passion of the baristas at the city-center café, which he credited for making everything possible.
Established in 2013, Hale Coffee currently operates four other locations in Toronto and was one of the inaugural tenants in Square One’s food district when it opened in April 2019.
The culinary quarter, spanning over 40,000 square feet near Duke of York Boulevard and Square One Drive, initially featured 22 local eateries and merchants touted by the mall as “best in class.” However, there has been significant turnover among the original vendors, with at least 14 no longer in operation according to Square One’s shop directory.
The mall’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Mississauga News.
Reflecting on their time at Square One, Freitas expressed gratitude for the community support and customer loyalty, describing the experience as incredibly rewarding.
Until July 28, customers can take advantage of special deals at Hale’s Square One location on 340 gram and five-pound bags of coffee beans, alongside other limited-time offers.
