An ongoing construction project will soon lead to the closure of a section of a busy bridge in Mississauga. The Riverwood Conservancy recently announced that starting around August 1st, or shortly thereafter, construction crews will enter stage three of their extensive renovation project on the Burhamthorpe Road West bridge over the Credit River.
This significant renovation was announced last year and began in the fall. According to the Riverwood Conservancy’s news release, the north bridge, sidewalk, and multi-use trail will reopen, while the south bridge and sidewalk will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians. Consequently, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with the north bridge accommodating both eastbound and westbound traffic.
The Riverwood Conservancy emphasized the importance of following traffic control signage, reducing speed in the construction zone, and planning for additional travel time due to potential delays in reaching Riverwood.
Since the project commenced, the city has implemented lane closures along Burnhamthorpe Road West from The Credit Woodlands/Riverwood Park Lane on the east side of the bridge to Promontory Crescent on the west side, affecting a total of five bridges along Burnhamthorpe Road West. These bridges span the Credit River (one eastbound and one westbound bridge), Mullet Creek (one eastbound and one westbound bridge), and the Sawmill Valley Pedestrian Trail.
The construction project, totaling $1.55 million, is expected to rehabilitate these five bridges by the end of the year, according to Riverwood’s estimates.
