A secondhand clothing franchise has opened a store in Mississauga this week.
Plato’s Closet, which operates locations across North America, is celebrating the grand opening of its new shop at 6465 Millcreek Dr., unit 100, near Erin Mills Parkway.
Known for its affordable, gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, and brand-name items, the west Mississauga location opens on Thursday, featuring prize giveaways for shoppers.
From October 24 through the weekend, owner Lauren Rosso invites visitors to enter for a chance to win a “Sustainability Starter Kit,” which includes a Stanley water cup, a Baggu reusable bag, and a $100 shopping spree gift card.
According to a press release from Plato’s Closet, the store offers a sustainable shopping option with a variety of styles for teens and young adults. Customers can find brand-name clothing at low prices while being eco-friendly. They can also bring in gently used brand-name items for cash.
“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Rosso noted. “We specialize in the teen and young adult market, responding to trends in a timely and value-oriented manner.”
The company aims to divert clothing from landfills while providing a resource for shoppers looking to update their wardrobes mindfully.
Unlike typical consignment stores, no appointment is needed to sell items at Plato’s Closet. Customers can save up to 70% on brand-name clothing and receive cash on the spot for gently used items they no longer want.
Plato’s Closet’s parent company, Winmark, also franchises Play It Again Sports, Once Upon A Child, Style Encore, and Music Go Round.
The new Mississauga shop is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
