Mississauga is grappling with an increasing graffiti problem, leading to frustration from a City councillor.
Coun. Stephen Dasko of Ward 1 has expressed his exasperation online, stating, “Enough is enough.” He criticizes the graffiti as a “blatant disregard” for the effort residents put into maintaining clean and welcoming neighborhoods.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Dasko described the graffiti as not just an eyesore but a criminal act. He highlighted that unauthorized graffiti damages public spaces, private properties, and community spirit, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars each year in cleanup.
Reports of illegal graffiti have been persistent, with markings showing up “everywhere” on buildings and structures managed by the City of Mississauga, the Region of Peel, and other organizations.
This summer, officials from both the City and Peel Regional Police underscored the need for swift removal of “tagging” from buildings, bridges, mailboxes, trash bins, and other surfaces to effectively combat this illegal activity.
In his post, Dasko revealed he is working with Peel Regional Police to identify and prosecute those responsible for the vandalism to the fullest extent of the law. He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, providing his office’s email (stephen.dasko@mississauga.ca) and Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line (1-800-222-TIPS) for any information.
