Traffic on three major roads near the QEW in Mississauga will be affected in March due to lane closures associated with ongoing work, including a significant bridge rehabilitation project over the Credit River.
Officials from the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project, overseeing the bridge work and related projects, announced that one lane of Premium Way will be closed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between March 3 and March 31.
This closure will impact the east-west route between Stavebank Road and Lynchmere Avenue. Residents and drivers in the area should expect traffic delays until the work is finished.
Premium Way runs parallel to the QEW, just north of it, and west of Hurontario Street.
Despite the lane closure, officials confirmed that two-way traffic will remain open with flagging conditions throughout the entire month, and access to Dickson Road and Lynchmere Avenue will be maintained.
Additionally, one-lane and two-lane closures will be in place between March 3 and March 14 on Mississauga Road (between Kedleston Way and the QEW westbound on-ramp) and South Sheridan Way (between the QEW eastbound on-ramp and Mississauga Road).
On Mississauga Road, the one-lane closure will occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with two-way traffic and continued access to Mississauga Crescent and Kedleston Way. On South Sheridan Way, two-lane closures will be in effect nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with two-way traffic maintained under flagging conditions as well.
Project officials also cautioned residents that the overnight work may generate noise.
Lane closures and other restrictions have been frequent since 2022 along both the QEW and nearby roads due to the ongoing bridge project, which started three years ago.
While no specific completion date has been given for the bridge work, further traffic disruptions are expected as the project continues. Nighttime and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW, from Hurontario Street to Mississauga Road, will likely affect traffic for the duration of the project.

In a recent project update, officials confirmed that several key parts of the bridge rehabilitation have been completed as work continues through winter. Notably, the QEW eastbound alignment has been adjusted, and traffic is now routed over the new Mississauga Road overpass.
Additionally, in July, paving and line painting were finished on the QEW eastbound, and last June, demolition of the south section of the old Credit River bridge was completed.
Looking ahead, ongoing work over the next few months will include:
Construction of the Mississauga Road multi-use path
Rehabilitation of the existing bridge
Updates to the Mississauga Road interchange
Development of pedestrian-cyclist crossings over the QEW
Improvements to the QEW median
EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc. were awarded the contract for this $313.8-million project in late 2020, with work commencing in 2021/22.
The project, initially studied by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation in 2013, originally proposed the demolition of the existing 840-foot-long bridge, which was built in 1934 and expanded in 1960. However, due to public opposition and resistance from Mississauga city council in 2019, the provincial government reversed its decision and opted to rehabilitate the bridge instead of demolishing it.
The decision to preserve the bridge’s original heritage structure was made following feedback from the community, as the bridge is owned by the Ontario government.
