This weekend, a major intersection in Mississauga will experience significant traffic disruptions due to continuous construction related to the Hazel McCallion LRT track work. From Friday, July 19 at 10 p.m. until Monday, July 22 at 7 a.m., the intersection of Burnhamthorpe Road and Hurontario Street will be reduced to one lane in all directions. Left and right turns at the intersection will be prohibited during this period as construction crews focus on installing LRT tracks in the area, according to a notice from Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency overseeing the project.

Earlier this month, ongoing construction around Hurontario and Burnhamthorpe had already restricted vehicular traffic through the intersection to two lanes each way and banned left turns. Metrolinx anticipates that track installation work at Burnhamthorpe and Hurontario will continue until September 19. Following this weekend’s construction, another full-day and night of construction is planned.
Additional traffic restrictions include no right turns onto Burnhamthorpe Road southbound from Hurontario Street, no left turns onto Hurontario Street from Burnhamthorpe Road, and reduced north-south traffic on Hurontario Street to a single lane. Left turns at Absolute Avenue and Matthews Gate onto Hurontario Street will also be restricted.
The Hazel McCallion Line, formerly known as the Hurontario LRT, is a major infrastructure project that began in 2020 and is expected to be completed this year. Metrolinx plans to provide a specific opening date as the construction nears completion.
