Civic Revival sent requested that the Mayor of Mississauga Bonnie Crombie provide sufficient police protection for the vigil and rally which are planned to raise awareness about the latest wave of church burning in Canada.
The peaceful gathering which will take place next Saturday at two o’clock in the afternoon in Mississauga’s Celebration Square has become a popular attraction to many given to the extent of destruction and successive fires which have destroyed many churches in Canada.
In this regard, Civic Revival, the organising group, renewed their ask for police presence. “ Since none of the attackers got caught, the rally may get targeted. It is the responsibility of the city to ensure we are protected..”, said Ghada Melek the president of the organization in an email to Mayor Crombie.
In light of the rise of hate crimes against Christians in Canada lately, and with so few arrests, concerns are rising over the infiltration of wrong groups into the gathering.
On the other hand, the organization announced some strict measures to minimize disruption including the approval of the written banners so as to avoid inflammatory or hateful messages. Violators of the spirit of the rally will not be tolerated.
Attendees and speakers will include many ethnic and faith groups, all will be there for just one cause, to request the end of violence against Canadian churches and the upholding of their Charter rights.
Oxygen Canada News will also be present to cover this very important and historic event.
