Here’s a look at the exciting events happening this month:
Black Brilliance: Poster-Making for Black History Month
On February 8, teens aged 13-17 are invited to explore the lives of influential figures in Black history by creating posters that highlight their achievements. These powerful works will be displayed throughout the month at the Main Branch (1010 Main St. E). The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., but registration is required and space is limited.
Games Night and Speed Friending
Looking to meet new people? Join the MPL’s Games Night and Speed Friending event on February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Teal Room (Main Branch). It’s an opportunity to make connections while enjoying fun activities!
Celebrating Love: Art Exhibition by Abiola Idowu
On February 14, award-winning artist Abiola Idowu will present his exhibition, Celebrating Love, at the Sherwood Branch (6355 Main St. W). His work challenges societal divides, promoting unity through art. The exhibition opens with a reception at 6 p.m. and runs until February 21. Registration is required.
Reading Corner with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton
On February 22, MPL partners with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton for a family-friendly storytime. The event will feature books by Black authors and showcase new Book Kits aimed at promoting literacy and cultural pride. This event starts at 10 a.m. at the Main Branch.
Black Legends of Music: Film Festival
On February 22 at 12:45 p.m., film lovers can enjoy Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, followed by Piece by Piece, a documentary about Pharrell Williams. The festival, held at Beaty Branch (945 Fourth Ln.), runs until 5 p.m.
I Am Home: A Healing Session
On February 23 at 3:30 p.m., the Out Here Healing duo, Black therapists and founders of a healing-focused brand, will host a session that explores how to experience a sense of “home.” Participants will be given a notebook to reflect on their thoughts during this unique healing event at the Sherwood Branch. Space is limited, so registration is required.

The celebration continues into March! On March 1 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., MPL teams up with Halton Black Voices for an evening filled with live music, food, drinks, and an open mic. This lively event is for those aged 19 and over. Registration is required for open mic participants.
An Evening with Perdita Felicien
On March 21, retired Olympian and author Perdita Felicien will be in conversation at the Sherwood Branch. Hear her talk about her memoir, My Mother’s Daughter, and gain insight into her inspiring journey. The event starts at 7 p.m., and attendees can purchase signed copies of her book.
