Heavy rainfall in Mississauga today has led to widespread flooding throughout the city. Recently, near Heartland Town Centre, several vehicles have become stranded due to rising water levels.
Peel Regional Police have closed off a section of Heartland Town Centre near Harvey’s restaurant because of significant water accumulation. With assistance from the local fire department, officers have blocked exits from the plaza leading to McLaughlin Road at Britannia Road.
The flooding follows multiple weather advisories issued by Environment Canada this morning, which have since been upgraded to four warnings. These include alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a potential tornado, with expected precipitation of 40 mm or more.
As of this afternoon, Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services have closed the following roads:
– Rathburn Road and Sherwoodtowne Boulevard
– Rathburn Road and Station Gate
– Britannia Convair Drive to Renforth Road
– Hurontario Street and Centre View Drive
– King Street
– Dixie Road and Dundas Street East
Officials have not provided an estimated time for when these roadways will be safe for motorists. Peel Regional Police are advising residents to seek alternate routes and avoid driving through flooded areas.
